We are Siori & Fermin and we LOVE to travel. This blog is the space where we share our travel tips & tricks; traveling more sustainably; how much it costs to travel; and occasionally some of our best stories.

About us and the blog

Fermin and I met at work. Don’t worry, there was no office drama (we couldn’t have been in more different areas); fate, and a whole bunch of friends, brought us together. We dated for a few years and then got married. Fermin had a chance to assist with a project in Germany so we were whisked away to Europe shortly after we got married.

Fermin was born in the Philippines. His family emigrated to the US. I was born in Chile and my family emigrated to the US. See a pattern here? We met in the sunshine state and for years our life revolved around work and dragon boating. We traveled often and on one of those fateful trips we decided to go travel around the world before we were too old (click here if you are curious about the whooooole story - spoiler, it’s sad and sweet).

More about Fermin? he’s a former marine; a software engineer and loves coding (yes! all. the. time); he competed in the ICF Dragon Boat World Championship representing the US (it’s like the Olympics of Dragon Boat). We are mostly plant based at home but he does love a good fried chicken, with a vengeance.

About Siori - I’m a reformed software engineer, with a deep love for spreadsheets (my first degree was in economics). I also dragon boated for what feels like forever and in that time coached too, including coaching Fermin, that was interesting. I am mostly plant based (cheese is my weakness!) and I mostly author this blog.

This blog is the space where we share our stories; tips & tricks to traveling (particularly long term); the changes we are making to minimize any negative impact as we travel, aka: traveling more sustainably; and expense data that we meticulously track (click here if you are curious, ‘cause you know your girl might be a reformed engineer now, but she does still love a spreadsheet).

Now that you know a little bit more about us, we hope that The Present Road will inspire you to go out and explore, whether it be far and wide or just in your own backyard, because we believe that the beauty of travel is not in how far you go, but rather in how present you are.

With love from our road to yours,

Siori & Fermin
